Race-ing to cover All Bottoms!

The first annual Gainesville Diaper Derby on Sunday, 1/7/18 was a success! With 18 racers; both crawlers and new walkers and plenty of their fans there to cheer them on, the event was a lot of fun. More than $800 was raised as well as over 500 diapers donated. Many local businesses contributed to the event's success by donating raffle items. A huge THANK YOU to Caroline Chance Earls and Tiffany Williams Propes for coming to us with this idea to annually support the ABC All Bottoms Covered Diaper Bank initiative of the ACPMHC!

The ABC Diaper Bank is a collaborative effort to address diaper need, affecting approximately 30% of babies/families in Alachua County. Diapers are a basic need for babies, yet the cost of diapers is not offset by any state or federal programs. Parents who cannot afford diapers are also at three TIMES the normal risk (15-20%) of experiencing postpartum depression and related illnesses. Parents are also unable to return to work or classes when they cannot provide diapers to caregivers/daycare centers.

Our current Partner Agencies: Catholic Charities of Gainesville, Healthy Start of North Central Florida and the resource centers of Partnership for Strong Families distribute the ABC Diaper Bank diaper packages with information on perinatal mental illnesses to the families they serve directly.

Addressing diaper need means healthier babies, parents and communities!

Thank you Gainesville Sun and WCJB TV 20 for coming to check out all the fun!
